Whose Rights? Whose Democracy?
A Confucian Critique of Modern Western Liberalism

Henry Rosemont, Jr.
Saint Mary's College of Maryland

Dr. Henry Rosemont, Jr. received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He currently holds the positions at both Saint Mary's College of Maryland (George B. and Willma Reeves Distinguished Professor of the Liberal Arts) and Fudan University in China (Senior Consulting Professor). Professor Rosemont's interests include Chinese thought, logic and linguistics, and global justice. He is the author of more than fifty articles in scholarly journals and anthologies and editor of the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy's Monograph Series. His books include A Chinese Mirror (Open Court, 1991), Leibniz: Writings on China (Open Court, 1994) and The Analects of Confucius: A Philosophical Translation (Classics of Ancient China).

For his Keynote Presentation, Professor Rosemont will explore issues of human rights, freedom, and responsibility from a global, cross-cultural perspective.
