GRE EXAM
There are two parts to this exam: The
General Test and the Subject Test. Not everyone is required to take the
subject test and some are not even recquired to take the general test.
This depends on the program and schools which you are applying to.
What are the GRE’s?
The Graduate Record Examination. Most graduate schools
require this test to be taken for admission to their college.
How do I study?
I found this
site to be most helpful in how to study for the GRE’s: This
site includes test-taking strategies, studying tips and preparation.
What are the average
grades?
I found, for the year 2000, the mean for the Psychology
GRE’s to be 563. For the General GRE test I found
that the mean to be 465 in Verbal, 578 in Quantitative, and 562 in Analytical.
What do I have
to get on my GRE’s?
It depends on the college you are applying to. It
varies from school to school and you should check with each college to
see what they want and for what program because there may be differences
for each program
SUGGESTIONS
- Take your GREs as early as possible, preferably the summer of your
junior year to give you plenty of time to retake them if necessary.
A few months of practice in advance is highly recommended
- Keep the deadlines for the schools you are applying to in mind
- The General Test (computer/paper based) may only be taken once a month,
and NO MORE than 5 times a year. This applies even if you cancelled
your scores on a previous test
- Computer-based test appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served
basis.
- Paper-based tests are offered in areas where computer-based testing
is not available, but are almost completely gone.
- To register for the computer-based test call 1-800-GRE-CALL. Registration
is also available online at www.gre.org
- Register early to get your preferred test date
