What is APO?Alpha Phi Omega is the national service fraternity founded December 16, 1925 at Lafayette College by Frank Reed Horton. The purpose of the Fraternity is "to assemble college and university students in the fellowship and principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service." The Members of Alpha Phi Omega are comprised of young men and women in colleges and universities in over 700 Chapters across the United States and over the world.Alpha Phi Omega deals in four areas of Service: Service to the Campus Service to the Fraternity Service to the Community and Service to the Nation -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE NATIONAL, REGIONAL, & SECTIONAL BREAKDOWN The Chapters of Alpha Phi Omega are divided into regions which are further subdivided into sections. The Xi Rho Chapter is in Region II , Section 88. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XI RHO Xi Rho, the chapter at Oneonta State College, was founded in 1963. We have in the past provided many service projects to the campus such as the blood drives, candy sales, bowl-a-thons, and food drives. The chapter's business and affairs are run according to our Chapter Bylaws, Risk Management Policy, Standard Chapter Articles of Association, and our Chapter Vision Statement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT APO CAN OFFER YOU College should be more than the acquisition of facts and figures; it should also broaden your experiences, expand and test your inherent abilities, and sharpen your social skills. Alpha Phi Omega, through its unique program of leadership, friendship and service, can add this necessary but often lacking aspect of college life -- and at the same time enable you to help others while helping yourself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BECOMING A PART OF APO As a Fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega requires a Pledge program for membership. The purpose of the program is to develop a thorough understanding of the Fraternity and the Chapter. This is accomplished with a period of training through which Pledges gain insight into the operations and history of the Chapter and Alpha Phi Omega. Upon completion of the program, Pledges are invited into active membership through a formal Initiation ceremony. Alpha Phi Omega supports a NO HAZING and NO ALCOHOL policy.
