What is Beta beta beta

The Purpose of Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society shall be to function as an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its activities shall be designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment, and investigation in the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences.

TriBeta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University--the Alpha Chapter--by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and a group of his students. The idea of an honor and professional society for biology students spread rapidly and by 1925, the society was a national organization.

The Theta Nu Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, started in 2004, has served as  a society for Oneonta State students dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.

Since TriBeta is a national organization, membership obligations are required. Regular members shall be a) an undergraduate Biology major, b) shall have completed at least one term of the second year of a four-year curriculum or its equivalent, c) shall have completed at least four courses in Biology, two of which have been taken at SUNY Oneonta, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.15 in Biology courses, d) shall be in good academic standing. Associate membership is available to anyone who wished to apply, regarless of academic credentials. Upon completion of the academic requirements listed for Regular membership, the Associate member can apply for Regular membership.
