In addition to the League’s Voter Service work, the LWV is involved in education and advocacy on a wide range of issues. League members at the local, state and national levels are involved in committees which are responsible for researching and informing the rest of the LWV (and sometimes the public) on timely topics in a well-researched and objective manner. Only after careful study and consensus does the League take positions on any of these issues. There is usually at least one consensus a year. Once established, the national, state, or local League positions and standards can be the basis for action.
The LWV is nonpartisan in its action/advocacy role, meaning we do not support or oppose any candidate or political party. The League’s positions are the basis for League action: advocacy for or against particular policies in the public interest.
