2006 Awards

Because excellence and achievement take many different forms, the Oneonta Undergraduate Philosophy Conference presents awards in the following categories.

President's Awards

President's Awards honor student presentations that most clearly exemplify the standards and ideals of the conference.  For 2006, the awards were presented to (alpha order):

• Ashley Inglehart (Virginia Commonwealth University )
• Emilio Reyes Le Blanc (University of Toronto )
• Stefan Shirley (SUNY Oneonta )
• Joshua Wolak (Belmont University )

Ninash Foundation East-West Awards

East-West Awards honor student presentations that exhibit special expertise and insight in Asian and Comparative Philosophy. For 2006, the awards were presented to (alpha order):

• Aaron Creller ( Central Michigan University )
• Paul D'Ambrosio (Merrimack College)
• Qi Lu (Eastern Connecticut State University )
• Phillip Walsh (Villanova University )

Spirit of Conference Awards

Spirit of Conference Awards honor students who contribute to the conference in diverse, sometimes unexpected ways.  Special consideration is given to contributions that enhance the academic, intellectual, and positive social atmosphere of the conference. For 2006, the awards were presented to (alpha order):

• Waylon Bryson (Washington State University )
• Aaron Creller (Central Michigan University )
• Joshua Earlenbaugh (University of Missouri – Kansas City )
• Jerry Sardella (SUNY Oneonta)
• Molly Wetherbee (SUNY Oneonta)

Matthew Grappone Prizes in Philosophy of Science

Matthew Grappone Prizes honor student presentations that exhibit special expertise and insight in the Philosophy of Science. For 2006, the awards were presented to (alpha order):

• Joshua Earlenbaugh (University of Missouri – Kansas City )
• Shanna Hollich (Brandeis University )

Dominick Roda Awards

Dominick Roda Awards honor students who contribute a vital but often unheralded dimension to the conference by serving as discussants for presentations by other students. For 2006, the awards for excellence as a discussant were presented to (alpha order):

•  Morgan Hardy (Columbia University)
  
•  Anne Higgins (SUNY Potsdam)
  
•  Guy Schoettl (SUNY Oneonta )

Kerri Lynn Nicholas Heart and Soul Awards

Named in honor of an alumna who helped found the conference, Kerri Lynn Nicholas Heart and Soul Awards provide special recognition to those who have made truly exceptional, lasting contributions to the conference. At the 2006 conference, this prestigious award was presented to:

•  Malcolm Hardy (SUNY Oneonta) for contributions to the 2004, 2005, and 2006 conferences
  

Publication in the Conference Proceedings

Selected student papers are published, along with the keynote addresses, Each year, Oneonta Philosophy Studies publishes a prestigious volume that includes:
